How To Have The Ultimate Girls Weekend

September 6, 2011 in Sweet Nothings

It has been a while since I have had a girls weekend (due to usually working on the weekend) and I’ve found myself bursting with ideas that I want to test out with some of my female friends as soon as I am able.

I posted Fabulous Girls Weekend Ideas over a year ago (how times flies!) and thought it was time I revamped the whole idea and took it to a new level – the ULTIMATE girls weekend.
Take from one or all of the ideas below and go crazy!

New experiences. If you have the funds, get away to a place neither of you have been to before. Experiencing a place for the first time with a great friend is pretty special. Research on local blogs before you go to find wonderful little restaurants, shops and areas that aren’t in the guide books – the locals always know where the action is!

You don’t have to spend a fortune flying to another city to experience new things though. Grab a last minute hotel room in your own city and delve into aspects of your home town that you haven’t explored before. Maybe you will create your own food and coffee tour (make sure they’re weak so you don’t get the shakes) or sampling the best frozen yoghurts or go on a mission to find the treasure trove of all the op shops in your city.

Pick a theme. The most fun girls weekends I’ve had is where you forget who you are for a couple of days and live it up. Choose characters from your favourite book, movie or TV show – Gossip Girl, Sex in the City – something fun and girly. What would Blair and Serena do? Swoon over Chanel and get immaculate blow waves with a matching manicure? Or get your Mad Men gloves and full skirt dresses on and indulge in a glamourous hotel high tea.

Slum it down or dress it up. Either decide that you’re going to relax in your trackies and high ponytails all weekend for pure comfort or go all out and doll yourselves up. Yoga pants and flats or a flattering skirt and pumps. It’s up to you and will probably depend on what activities you have planned.

Activities. Again, there are two options here. Relax and regenerate (I see massages, pedicures, long slow walks, reading mags on the couch and antipasto tasting plates with a glass of red wine in your future) OR fill up your day with a bevy of escapades and encounters (beaches, bikinis and surfing; cycling tours and markets or wine tasting and cheese nibbling).

Disconnect. Now you’re not going to like this one, but if you’re going on a girly weekend adventure to secure some quality time with your friend, they should have your full attention. Phones and computers off most of the day ladies, the world will not implode.

Document it. Photos, photos and more photos. The dorkier the better. If you’re so inclined you can then create a gorgeous scrapbook or journal of your weekend together. Or start a blog about girls weekends if you do it often enough – I’d sure like to read that!

What makes the Ultimate Girls Weekend in your book?
