Currently Loving…
February 24, 2012 in Cyberspace Gems (favourite links), Things I Love
What a whirlwind of a week it has been! Unfortunately because I have been wrapped up in a little (positive) chaos over the last couple of days, I haven’t prepared a Currently Loving.., video for you this week (sorry!) but will be back smiling at your next Friday I promise!

LIFE
Okay, you probably want an explanation as to why things have been a tad crazy in Camp Kim recently. Where do I begin?

Source unknown
When it rains it pours, doesn’t it? The one thing that is the most frightening about being self employed is the uncertainty about income. One week you’ll be on the edge of moving back in with your parents and the next week you’ll be out on the town buying margaritas for your friends. It’s nerve-wracking and exhilarating at the same time – living dangerously on the edge! Anyway, this week was all about the up-swing.
New (über exciting) social media client. I love working with brands across social media. There’s something wonderful about engaging with a company’s fans and supporters that is really rewarding. Everyone just wants to be heard and acknowledged on social media, and the fact that I get to do that is pretty awesome. Anyway, I decided to venture out into the scary world of self promotion and approach one of my all-time favourite brands to see if they’d like to have me on board. They said yes (cue the fireworks and shrill excited screeching)! All will be revealed soon I promise.
A handful of new students in the past week. I am now one student away from being fully booked. Crazy. It’s taken a little over a year but here I am, now able to say that my dance card is full. Ah-may-zing.
Tax man love. Didn’t think you’d ever see a blogger write that did you? To be honest, I never thought I’d write it, but I saw my accountant this morning. I had been dreading this meeting for weeks, mainly because I had estimated that I’d owe the tax department about $2000. Accountants tell you be conservative and save more than you’ll probably need, so I had my fingers crossed they wouldn’t take the whole chunk. Turns out, I may be getting a refund! Thank goodness as our trip needs to be funded somehow!
Green smoothies. I’ve finally found somewhere that stocks kale and have been throwing it into my smoothies every morning. I have to put a fair amount of fruit in to offset the strong kale taste, but it’s exciting to know how many nutrients I’m getting in every day by making these. My favourite combination has been kale, spinach, mango and blueberry!
Other: delicious locally made nougat, family visits, bridal showers, nail polish deliveries, brunch with girlfriends, seeing creatives take the purge (go Sian!), quiet moments, unexpected sweet text messages, high ponytails, watching old movies and having T home from his work trip.

And congrats on being almost fully booked, it must feel so amazing!?
No problem Marthe! Thanks for the congratulations, it certainly does feel amazing. :)
There’s nothing better than getting a tax refund! I’d spend a little on those gorgeous Zara heels – what perfect spring colors!
That’s very true Gloria, I couldn’t believe it! Might have to consider the heels, aren’t they stunning? x
Thanks for the link lovely!! x I love that be brave print!
You’re so welcome gorgeous. Isn’t the print fabulous? Think I need one for every room in my house… ;)
Hi, Kim. What a great post! Lots of links for me to check out… as always.
I wondered if I could know some more about how you approached the brand about joining their team. As a writer and editor, I see plenty of opportunity to assist with some of my favourite sites and brands, but I have no idea how to go about approaching them without seeming cheeky or aggressive. I’d love some pointers.
Congratulations on both the tax sigh-of-relief, and your full work schedule. That’s so exciting! I hope you have a wonderful week ahead…
Hi Amber, hope you enjoyed some of the links! I’ll send you an email re your question otherwise this comment might get out of control huge. :)
Thank you for your congratulations and best wishes – sending some right back to you. x
Green smoothies are all the rage these days. Sounds so healthy…probably a better alternative to my coffee everyday, huh?
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Hi Johanna, lovely to see you over here! I do love my green smoothies but haven’t entirely cut out coffee. I have one every few days and boy does it taste amazing! :)
I bow down to people who are self-employed, I have been wanting to go it alone for so long but I am just a bit too chicken at the moment! It’s great to read about other people’s successes though, it truly motivates me! Off to check out those links now! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog, I am so glad to have discovered yours!
Hi Meghan, it’s a very terrifying thing to “go it alone” as you say. Sometimes it’s just about careful planning and then taking that leap of faith. You can always go back to a safe, secure full time job but it’s always great to test the waters and see if you can do it yourself. I’m always here to help if you need any advice – I love helping people freelance and become their own boss! x
Great news on the refund. Love the things you are currently loving! xo
Thanks Alexa, I was thrilled! Hope you enjoyed the post, lovely to see you over here. :) x
